Upholstery in a vehicle is not limited to seating. Door card inserts, armrest wraps, center console lids, pillar trim and the headliner are all soft surfaces that collect dust and contact soiling, and they are frequently skipped in a quick clean because they do not look dirty until they are cleaned next to something that is.
Upholstery cleaning treats those surfaces as a set so the interior looks consistent rather than patchy.
Surfaces covered
- Seat faces, bolsters, backs and bases
- Door panel fabric inserts and armrests
- Center console lids and padded surfaces
- Pillar trim and seat belt webbing where soiled
- Cargo area carpeting and side panels
- Headliner spot cleaning only where necessary
Matching the method to the surface
Different soft surfaces tolerate very different amounts of moisture. A seat cushion can handle extraction; a headliner cannot, because the foam backing is bonded with heat-sensitive adhesive and excess moisture causes sagging that no amount of cleaning fixes. Door card inserts often sit directly over electronics and speakers, which limits how wet they can get.
Seat belts are part of the job
Seat belt webbing is one of the most-touched and least-cleaned surfaces in a vehicle. It picks up hand oils, sunscreen and dust and it retracts all of that into the pillar. It is cleaned carefully, without harsh chemistry that could compromise the webbing, and allowed to dry fully extended before retracting.
Frequently asked questions
- Can the headliner be cleaned?
- It can be spot cleaned very carefully. Full wet cleaning is avoided because the adhesive holding the fabric to the backing board is heat and moisture sensitive, and sagging is not reversible.
- Will cleaning change the texture of the fabric?
- Properly cleaned fabric returns to its normal texture once dry. Suede-style microfiber inserts need particular care, since aggressive brushing can permanently flatten the nap.
- Do you clean convertible tops?
- Interior soft trim is covered by this service. Exterior fabric tops are assessed separately since they use different products and protection.
