Headlight Restoration in Las Vegas

Sanding, polishing and re-protecting sun-hazed polycarbonate headlight lenses.

Headlight lenses are polycarbonate with a factory-applied UV coating. That coating is the only thing standing between the plastic and the sun, and it has a finite life. When it fails, the plastic underneath oxidizes and turns yellow and cloudy, which reduces light output at night and makes an otherwise clean vehicle look tired.

In the intense Southern Nevada sun this happens years earlier than it would in a milder climate. It is one of the clearest visual markers of a vehicle that has lived outdoors in the valley.

Why the cheap approaches fail

Toothpaste, household abrasives and one-wipe restoration kits can make a lens look better for a few weeks. They remove some oxidation without replacing the UV protection, and bare polycarbonate exposed to this much sun re-yellows quickly, often worse than before because the surface is now unprotected.

How proper restoration works

That final protective step is what separates a restoration that lasts from one that looks good for a month.

  • Surrounding paint is masked so it is not touched by sanding
  • The failed coating and oxidized layer are removed by progressive wet sanding
  • The lens is machine polished back to optical clarity
  • A fresh UV-resistant protective layer is applied and allowed to cure

When restoration is not the answer

Some lenses fail internally: moisture inside the housing, cracked lenses, or damage on the inner surface. None of those can be fixed from the outside, and in those cases replacement is the honest recommendation. We tell you if that is what we see.

Frequently asked questions

How long does restoration last in Las Vegas?
It depends on the protection applied and how much direct sun the vehicle takes. A garage-kept vehicle holds clarity considerably longer than one parked uncovered facing west all afternoon.
Does it improve night visibility?
Yes. Yellowed and hazed lenses scatter light rather than projecting it, so clearing them restores both beam pattern and brightness.
Can you restore just one headlight?
We can, but both are usually done together so they match. A single restored lens next to a yellowed one is very noticeable.
